DIG DEEPER

In the summer of 2011, I won the Emerson Scholarship, to support my first solo travel abroad experience. I interned at the Provincial General Hospital in Kenya for 6 weeks. At the hospital I dressed wounds, helped deliver babies, and more.

I lived with a host mother and father, Jack and Margaret Mburu. They taught me Kenyan customs, traditions, and history. Dinners lasted hours, full of laughter and leg pulling (I taught them the term, "Just pulling your leg").

The experience was unforgettable. Among other things, I learned to accept different ideas, beliefs and cultures.
